About Us

Lord Stevens had spent three years looking for a suitable investment opportunity. Attracted to the Protector Group by not only it’s range of goods and services such as CCTV, security guarding and electronic fire detection systems but also because of its superb people, strong regional presence and immense national potential.

The former Chief Constable of Northumbria has been a long-standing advocate of greater regulation of the private security industry. “I think it is time now for the private security industry to come in from the cold,” he said. The private security industry employs more people than the police in this country and I would like to see it continue to improve and do well.”

Lord Stevens, who pledged to be pretty hands-on in his new non-executive role, said the company would offer local solutions to local problems, providing a bespoke service to North East businesses. “The region is going through a tough time economically. At these times, crime levels tend to go up and there is a general worry about safety” he said. “Our ambition is to become the main player regionally and then to see where we can go nationally. It is good for the North East if you have a very substantial security business based in the region”.

Since the investment by Lord Stevens in 2008, The Protector Group has expanded throughout the UK and has regularly deployed staff throughout the World.

The Protector Group History

The Protector Group Limited was formed in September 1994. Initially concentrating on Static Site Security or Manned Guarding, Founder John S Harvey, an ex Royal Marine with distinguished service, put the emphasis on quality rather than quantity by only taking on contracts within the company resources at that time.

This sensible approach helped to build up strong working relationships with our clients producing a “Secure Partnership”, a principle and standard still continuing to this day. It is this belief in quality customer service that has allowed the company to develop into one of the regions leading security providers.

With the foundations laid, John started to expand the company by recruiting personnel with military and police experience, people who have formed the backbone of the company ever since. It was also time to diversify the range of services available. Mobile Patrols, Keyholder Response and Event Management, including Stewards and Corporate Hospitality were all added to the range provided.

To be successful the company needed to be accredited by industry governing bodies. Quality Assurance procedures were put in place to achieve this and are still followed to this day. You can view these accreditations by clicking here.

The company had now grown from the original 2 employees to nearly 300 and it was not about to stop there. Electronic Security was next, including Intruder Alarms, Access Control and in particular CCTV with monitoring. With an experienced Technical Director now on board from another large independent security company the time was right to relocate.

The company invested in new custom built premises, incorporating our own 24-hour monitoring station and control room, built and operated to BS 5979: 2007. This complex is now fully operational and we welcome all existing or prospective customers to come and see for themselves how good it really is. Further regional bases have been added over the years throughout the UK.

The Protector Group is now a “Total Security” provider. Equipped with both state of the art facilities and dedicated expert staff we are committed to providing cost effective and reliable security services to our clients through our variety of security solutions.
